Five doors, four seats and electric mobility for everyday use
Multicargo eCITY 5d is a new generation of compact urban electric car that combines easy parking with a practical five-door body. It offers four seats, separate rear side doors and equipment for comfortable everyday travel. It is ideal for trips to work, family shopping and regular journeys between the city and the surrounding area.
At just 3.26 metres long, it retains compact dimensions that you will appreciate on narrow streets and when parking. Electric drive, air conditioning, keyless entry and the Auto Hold function make every journey more enjoyable.
What has changed compared with the previous eCITY
The new eCITY 5d offers a practical five-door body with easy access to the rear seats. Compared with the previous eCITY, it is 192 mm longer, 10 mm wider and 42 mm lower, while the wheelbase has increased by 90 mm to 2 190 mm. The rear drum brakes have been replaced by disc brakes, while the 145/70 R12 tyres have been replaced with 155/70 R13 tyres, and keyless entry and start are now standard. The previous 17.3 kWh battery is replaced by two options, 16.2 kWh and 25.1 kWh with a stated range of 200 and 300 km (depending on the selected version). Maximum motor power remains at 30 kW, and the new model offers a 123-litre boot that can be expanded to 745 litres by folding the rear seats.
Manufacturing background and the Multicargo brand
The Multicargo eCITY 5d is based on the technical foundation of the WULING EV4. Under the Multicargo brand, it offers selected improvements and more comprehensive standard equipment compared with the original version. The vehicle's manufacturing foundation comes from SAIC-GM-Wuling, a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors and Guangxi Automobile. SAIC Motor is one of the world's major automotive groups and its portfolio includes MG, Roewe, Maxus, IM, Wuling and Baojun. It is also a long-standing manufacturing partner of Volkswagen and General Motors in China.
Multicargo (MC) is an independent, duly registered brand, under which vehicles are type-approved and introduced to the European market. Multicargo is the name entered in the vehicle's registration documents under ‘make’. The eCITY 5d therefore combines the manufacturing resources of a major automotive group with Multicargo's own specification and equipment, while its European version meets the relevant technical and type-approval requirements for use in the European market.
Efficiency that makes sense
Electric drive offers quiet operation, smooth starts and low running costs. There is no need to replace engine oil, spark plugs or other components typical of an internal combustion engine. The driver can choose between Economy, Standard and Sport modes, as well as individual settings. Energy recuperation can be set to three levels: Comfort, Standard and Strong. This returns some energy to the battery when slowing down. Battery heating and intelligent temperature maintenance are also included.
Two battery options to suit your needs
The eCITY 5d is available with an LFP battery with a capacity of either 16.2 kWh or 25.1 kWh. The standard version offers a range of up to 200 km (160 km combined), while the version with the larger battery offers up to 300 km (240 km combined). This allows you to choose according to the length of your regular journeys and your charging options.
DC (CCS2) charging is available at an additional cost, allowing charging from 30 to 80% in approximately 35 minutes. For AC charging from 20 to 100%, allow approximately 4.8 hours for the 16.2 kWh battery and 7.2 hours for the 25.1 kWh battery. A charger with a Type 2 (AC) connector is included in the vehicle price, allowing the vehicle to be charged from a standard household socket.
*Charging times apply at normal temperatures and vary depending on charging conditions and battery condition.
Why the eCITY 5d makes economic sense
Compared with a similarly sized combustion-engine vehicle, the eCITY offers significantly lower overall running costs. With average consumption of around 8 kWh per 100 km and an electricity price of approximately €0.204 per kWh, energy costs are roughly €1.63 per 100 km. For combustion-engine vehicles in urban traffic, fuel costs typically start at around €6.54 per 100 km, excluding regular servicing expenses.
There is also a significant difference in servicing. Electric drive eliminates the need for regular replacement of engine oil, filters, spark plugs, the clutch and other mechanically stressed components, significantly reducing servicing costs and unplanned downtime.
Savings from everyday use can, within a few years, reach an amount equivalent to the vehicle's purchase price. With illustrative costs of €12.26 per 100 km for a combustion-engine car (including servicing) and €1.63 per 100 km for the eCITY 5d, the difference is approximately €0.1063 per kilometre. With an annual mileage of 30,000 km, you therefore save approximately €3,188 per year, or €12,750 over four years. For a vehicle with a purchase price up to this amount, savings in running costs can offset its purchase price within four years.
*The actual result depends on consumption, fuel and electricity prices, and the distance travelled.
Practical for the city and everyday commuting
Four side doors and a tailgate make getting in and loading easier. The rear seats fold independently in a 50:50 split, allowing you to easily adapt the interior to passengers and luggage. The boot offers 123 litres, or up to 745 litres with the rear seats folded.
According to the technical documentation, the maximum speed is 100 km/h. Manoeuvring is assisted by electric power steering, rear parking sensors and a minimum turning radius of 4.5 metres. Air conditioning with heating, front and rear electric windows and a multifunction steering wheel provide comfort.
